The program “UNDERSTAND=RESPECT” was developed in accordance with the logical model, grounded in social science and based on evidence from the diagnosis of the threat of radicalization and the needs for its prevention, conducted in Poland in 2020, which confirmed the need to develop and implement such a program.
This is because it showed the prevalence of hate speech, manifestations of discrimination and other radical behaviors. Indeed, a total of 54% of teachers declared the occurrence of such discriminatory behaviors in local and family environments, while 39% of students indicated their occurrence.
On December 21st, educational classes addressed to teachers, psychologists and the management of the First High School in Gorzow Wielkopolski were held in the field of anti-discrimination and hate speech. Our experts – Marzena Kordaczuk-Wąs and Jakub Horn presented issues of recognizing the manifestations of radicalization; legal aspects, including liability for hate crimes; radicalization mechanisms, risk factors predisposing to violence and ways to prevent them. Over 50 teachers participated, including the project coordinator on behalf of the school Ms. Kamila Szymankiewicz and the Headmaster Mr. Mariusz Biniewski.
