The security and protection sector in Poland is now at a turning point. Challenges such as rapidly advancing automation, increasing responsibility for critical infrastructure and the growing complexity of threats call for a new approach.

This is why the Sectoral Council for Competences – Protection and Security of People and Property have been launched. This ongoing Polish initiative brings together representatives of security-sector companies, public administration and experts in fields such as physical, technical and organisational security. The Council functions within the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP) as an advisory and consultative body.

Its goal, among other things, is to identify competence needs in the fields of safety and security, and to create cohesive standards of education and qualifications to provide the highest possible quality and professionalism of staff. Thanks to this, the Council can respond more effectively to dynamically changing threats and growing social demands.

PPHS’s role:

As part of the Council, the Polish Platform for Homeland Security is one of the leading partners, coordinating selected substantive and organisational activities. PPHS’s tasks include, among other things:

• Conducting monitoring and identifying qualification and workforce needs in the protection and security of people and property sector.
• Educational and dissemination activities within the project.

• Identifying key competence needs within the security and protection sector, and highlighting staffing and qualification gaps.
• Developing and updating qualification and training standards so that they meet contemporary market requirements and emerging threats.
• Strengthening the professionalisation of the sector by improving the quality of security services and the level of employee preparedness.
• Integrating the sector – bringing together companies, public institutions, experts and education providers to build a coherent competence-development strategy.
• Monitoring technological and security trends and formulating recommendations for the future development of the sector.
