Training, analysis, and strategic support for prevention of Radicalisation

Radicalization leading to terrorism is a complex and multi-stage process. Throughout this process, individuals or groups adopt extremist ideologies that justify violence in pursuit of specific political or ideological goals.
According to Europol’s EU TE-SAT 2024 report, a total of 120 terrorist attacks were recorded in the European Union in 2023. Of these, 98 were successful, 9 failed, and 13 were thwarted. The highest number of attacks were carried out by separatist groups (70 attacks), followed by far-left and anarchist groups (32 attacks), and jihadist groups (14 attacks). This data highlights the persistent threat of terrorism in Europe. Therefore, as part of this project, we undertake actions aimed at preventing radicalization and countering extremism.
The EU Knowledge Hub on Prevention of Radicalisation brings together practitioners, policymakers, and researchers engaged in radicalization prevention. Within the Knowledge Hub, various activities such as events, workshops, training sessions, and study visits will be organized to enhance radicalization prevention and strategic communication. Additionally, upon request from EU member states and priority third countries, specialized consultations may be offered in selected areas. The Hub also conducts in-depth analyses to identify and address gaps in existing research and knowledge resources within the EU. Furthermore, forecasts on future trends and the evolution of radicalization will be developed.
PPHS’s role in the EU Knowledge Hub on Prevention of Radicalisation focuses on training, analysis, and strategic support.
We serve as the Leader of the Training Component, responsible for preparing and organizing training sessions, providing mentoring for future professionals and policymakers engaged in radicalization prevention, and coordinating mutual job shadowing for practitioners, researchers, and policymakers. Additionally, we support the secretariat of Thematic Panel 4, which focuses on the local dimension, polarization, and resilience building.
Furthermore, we develop the evaluation methodology for activities implemented within the EU Knowledge Hub to effectively assess their impact and identify areas for further improvement. Our efforts align with a broader strategy of radicalization and extremism prevention, contributing significantly to countering terrorist threats in Europe.
