Lion DC: The second meeting in Leiden

The second workshop in the frame of the Lion DC Project was held between 17th-18th April 2019 in Leiden, Netherlands.

The meeting was organized within Work Package 2, (Online Drug Crime Phenomena Definition & LEA needs assessment) lead by the Polish Platform for Homeland Security. The co-organizer of the meeting, and also the hosting institution, was TNO.

During the meeting, representatives of security services, in particular Police, discussed the different challenges, which they face when conducting investigations connected with online drug crimes. The officers indicated the darknet, cryptocurrencies, network and users encryption, legal, procedural issues and an overall lack of training as the main challenges related to online drug crimes. The discussion also considered tools used by Law Enforcement Agencies in related cases.

Moreover, participants of the workshop were invited to test a simulator of the darknet. They were also introduced to the training offered by TNO. The goal of this part of the event was to receive constructive feedback related to the possibilities of improving both, the platform and training. It is planned that the elements and topics mentioned, are to be used in future work, within the Lion DC project.

Representatives of the project consortium from the Netherlands, Greece, Lithuania, Romania, Bulgaria, and Poland participated in the meeting.
