Conference 2016 - Research & innovation in the area of security

Polish Platform for Homeland Security in cooperation with Polish National Contact Point for Research Programmes of the European Union are organizing the conference "Research and Innovation in the area of Security – international best practices" under the Honorary Patronage of the Minister of Interior and Administration and the National Center for Research and Development. The event will take place on 10-12 May 2016 at the National Stadium’s Conference Centre in Warsaw.

The conference will be divided into three complementary events, namely:

  • Day 1: Information day on the Secure Societies current call (10th May 2016).

The first day of the conference will be dedicated to the current Work Programme 2016-2017 Horizon 2020 in the area of "Secure societies”. The invited experts from the European Commission and the Research Executive Agency (REA) will present and describe topics announced in the current call. The Information Day is intended for all institutions and organizations interested in participation in international consortia applying for funding: public and private universities, research and development units, entrepreneurs, as well as the public administration, in particular services and institutions responsible for security.

  • Day 2: International experiences and best practices in R&D projects (11th May 2016).

The second day will be dedicated to presentations and discussion about international experiences and best practices in research and development projects. We will focus especially on involvement of end users, possibilities for preparing Pre-Operational Validation (POV), Pre-commercial Procurement (PCP) and Public Procurement of innovative solutions (PPI) projects, models of financing of research in the area of security in the EU states, including managing of intellectual property rights.

Moreover, it will be a great opportunity to establish international contacts and to build European consortia, which in August 2016 and in 2017 will apply for grants within the Horizon 2020.

  • Day 3: Presentation of Polish R&D projects in the area of security (12th May 2016).

The last day of the conference will be an opportunity to see the results of selected Polish R&D projects in the area of security. Each year, the Polish government funds more than twenty research projects to respond to the needs of the LEAs. In addition to inform about the results of the projects, the event will provide a good opportunity to get familiar with Polish research teams composed of representatives of science and business.

It should be emphasized that this is the first major international event dedicated to R&D in the area of security organized in Poland, after the Security Research Conference 2011.

The participants of the conference will include representatives of Polish and European agencies and institutions responsible for security, public administration entities, public and private universities, research and development units and entrepreneurs. In addition, the conference will be attended by experts of the European Commission, Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs, Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology and the Research Executive Agency.
